Idea 3: Developed Scenario from a Set Text
I think it would be really interesting to explore something similar to Operator. After researching about the film, I found that there had been quite a few short films made by the emergency services to put people off using 999 and emergency numbers for minor accidents, and this got me thinking that it would be interesting to make a short film based on one of this trivial calls, and see how that compares to the intensity of what 999 numbers really should be used for, like the scenario in Operator. In the short film, there is mention of a woman who has been locked outside of her house, and decided she needs to call the emergency services in order to be let back in. This, compared to a house fire, seems like a complete waste of time for the operators themselves who need to be available for real emergencies, and it might be that creating a short film which highlights the triviality of this would be effective and emotive for audiences.
Alongside this idea, I could also consider writing a screenplay based off of Operator itself, instead focusing on the house fire, the woman and her son trying to escape their house, while being told they need to remain by the upstairs window and wait for the fire engines. This would be good for camera movement especially, likely using lots of quick cuts and close up shots.
